The .Amaazons.com pseudo-ccTLD is operated by AmazonNIC, headquartered in Brazil, inspired by CentralNic's business model[1] of selling subdomains/third-level domains.

Aimed at individuals and organizations in the Amazon Region, the .amaazons.com domain extension can be registered all over the world, but its main market is the countries in the Amazon Region, namely: Bolivia, Brazil (which holds 60% of the Amazon), Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana (France), Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela.

After the defeat of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization and the governments of the Amazonian countries for the gTLD dispute .amazon[2][3], for the Amazon Corporation[4] of the United States, a company in Brazil started a plan for the sustainable, economic, social, cultural and touristic development of the Region Amazonia, and from a survey it was discovered that individuals, companies and organizations wanted an Amazonian identity on the internet.

AmazonNIC discovered that in the region the term "Amazon" in English was already used before the creation of Amazon (company), being able to create the telephony operator TelAmazon that belonged to the Government of Brazil and the fact that Amazon (company) does not have exclusivity in the name "Amazon" in several Amazonian countries.

The search began for a good and easy-to-remember domain that could be associated with the Amazon Region, but domains such as Amazon.com itself and Amazons.com, Amazons.com, AAmazon.com, Amazoon.com, theAmazon. com and many other variations were registered.

AmazonNIC started a search process for domains with the terminus Amazon in the plural and with duplicate letters until it found amazons.com available for registration.

By luck, the Amaazons.com domain was the only domain with the geographical name Amazon in the plural (Amazons) with duplicate letters.

Some curiosities

The Amaazons.com domain was registered at Spaceship.com[5][6], Namecheap's sister company, but after several technical problems that occurred on the Spaceship website[7], such as updating DNS servers, AmazonNIC asked Spaceship to delete the domain completely and quickly to that it be registered again on April 21, 2023, at Google Domains, as the domain transfer to Google was blocked within 60 days.

Acting quickly with support from Spaceship support, AmazonNIC was able to register the Amaazons.com domain again within seconds.

AmazonNIC is a department of WHOIS Prvacy Registry Services[8][9] in the Amazon Region
