.mr is the ccTLD for Mauritania. It is managed by Université de Nouakchott Al Aasriya.[1]
Rules and Restrictions[edit | edit source]
Entities eligible to register or renew a domain name under namespaces managed by NIC Mauritania include:
- natural persons residing in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania;
- natural persons of Mauritanian nationality residing abroad;
- legal entities with a headquarters or principal establishment located in:
- Mauritania;
- a member state of the Arab Maghreb Union; or
- a member state of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS);
- foreign legal entities holding a trademark that covers the territory of Mauritania and requesting a matching domain;
- legal entities holding national or international trademarks identifiable in global trademark databases and requesting a matching domain.[2]
Contact Requirements[edit | edit source]
The domain name holder and the administrative contact must remain reachable throughout the registration period. Each must provide the registrar with:
- a valid phone number;
- a physical address;
- an email address;
- accurate identification details.
These must be kept up to date through the registrar without delay.[2]
Reserved Terms[edit | edit source]
The following terms are reserved and may only be registered by NIC Mauritania: "mr", "nic", "www", "org", "gov", "com", "edu", "perso", "net", "web", "w3", "whois", "Office-d-enregistrement", "Officedenregistrement", "Office-enregistrement", "officeenregistrement", "officenregistrement", "asso", "gouv", "info" and "bureaudenregistrement". [2]
Second-level Domains[edit | edit source]
Under the .mr top-level domain, the following second-level domain structures are defined:
- .org.mr: for associations and non-profit organizations established in Mauritania;
- .edu.mr: for public or private educational institutions;
- .perso.mr: for individual persons;
- .gov.mr: reserved for the Mauritanian government.[2]
.gov.mr Specific Provisions[edit | edit source]
Only government entities of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania may register under .gov.mr. Registration requires a signed request from the authority representing the government institution, using a dedicated form
Domains under ".gov.mr" are registered directly by NIC Mauritania, on instruction from the government, without going through third-party registrars.[2]
Characters[edit | edit source]
Domain names registered under .mr in ASCII must only use the following characters:
- lowercase Latin letters: a–z;
- digits: 0–9;
- hyphen: "-".[2]
ASCII domain names cannot:
- begin or end with a hyphen;
- contain a hyphen in both the 3rd and 4th positions;
- exceed 63 characters in length.[2]
