.mu is the ccTLD for Mauritius. It is managed by Internet Direct Ltd.[1]

Rules and Restrictions[edit | edit source]

The .mu Domain names must only be used for lawful purposes. The .mu Domain Policy requires all domain activities to comply with Mauritian laws and CoCCA recommendations. Key prohibited activities include:

  • Intellectual Property Violations: Using .mu domains in ways that infringe on copyrights, trademarks, patents, and other intellectual property rights, including cases of confusion or deception in relation to third-party trademarks or service marks.
  • Bad Faith Registrations: Registering .mu domains with harmful intent, such as disrupting another's business, confusing users about affiliations, or trading on another’s established reputation. Prohibited acts include selling domains for profit in bad faith, using domains as blocking registrations, or registering names that align with well-known marks without rights.
  • Unlawful or Offensive Material: Publishing or linking to content illegal under Mauritian law, including obscene, pornographic, violent, or defamatory material, or content promoting criminal activities or explicit instructions on committing crimes.
  • Privacy and Confidentiality Breaches: Unauthorized sharing of private information, trade secrets, or confidential data that violate privacy rights or export control laws.
  • Court and Government Compliance: Engaging in actions that disregard court orders or directives from Mauritian authorities.[2]
