The Additional Registration Data Directory Services (RDDS) Information Policy is the updated version of the Additional Whois Information Policy. It was updated on February 21, 2024 to reflect changes required to implement the Registration Data Policy.
The original Policy was adopted by ICANN as a consensus policy on May 6, 2012, effective January 31, 2016. Contracted parties could start implementing the updated Policy beginning on August 21, 2024 and must implement no later than August 21, 2025.
The goal of the Policy remais the same: to clarify the meaning of EPP status codes in RDDS data and require the consistent identification of registrars by their GURID (Globally Unique Registrar Identification number) in RDDS.
ICANN-accredited registrars and generic top-level domain (gTLD) registries are obligated pursuant to their respective agreements with ICANN to provide query-based access to certain Registration Data. The Additional RDDS Information Policy additionally requires registrars and registries to include in their RDDS output information to help RDDS users better identify a registration's sponsoring registrar and understand the status codes used by registries and registrars.[1]
