Argentina Proposal
The Argentina Proposal was a name given to document that was being developed by The Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) Working Group on Geographic Names to attempt limiting the use of geographic or culturally significant terms as nTLDs to prevent a TLD monopoly on the terms. The Proposal responds to New gTLD Program strings from the 2012, especially .amazon. Governments in South America united to prevent it from being granted to Amazon, Inc. on the grounds that the term has priority significance as a river and geographic area of cultural significance.
Any reference to this document by this name was not yet found in the GAC archives.
Two texts by Law firms (one from the US and one from the UK) have called the document "Argentina Proposal". Both documents were presenting topics to follow on ICANN meetings, the first, for ICANN53, and the second, for ICANN 57. Also, both presented negative comments about the ideas proposed by the Working Group. [1] [2]
