North American School of Internet Governance

North American School of Internet Governance (NASIG) is the first school in North America devoted to teaching the principles, norms, rules, decision‑making mechanisms and programs that shape the evolution and use of the Internet. It was conceived in 2016 during the Dynamic Coalition of Schools of Internet Governance session at IGF 2016 and organized by a steering committee led by Eduardo Díaz and Alfredo Calderón of ISOC Puerto Rico. The inaugural edition took place in March 2018 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Editions

  • 2018 – San Juan, Puerto Rico; March 7–9; slogan "Many Challenges, One Internet: Your Role"; held prior to ICANN 61 Public Forum; 35 students; 19 faculty.
  • 2019 – Montreal, Canada; held before ICANN 66 Annual General Assembly; featured English and French tracks chaired by Glenn McKnight and Pierre Jean Darres.
  • 2020 – planned for Washington, DC; postponed due to the COVID‑19 pandemic.
  • 2021 – virtual, two half‑day sessions; theme "Towards an Inclusive, Trusted and Resilient Internet".
  • 2022 – San Juan, Puerto Rico; hosted by EDP University; three‑day event; theme "Emerging Technologies and Cybersecurity: Impact on Internet Governance".
