In 1999, the Danish Internet Forum (DIFO) took over the role of administering and established the wholly-owned subsidiary DK Hostmaster to manage the daily operation.

Historically, .dk domain names were transferred without a fee. In December 2018, DK Hostmaster announced that as of 1 January 2019 the registry would introduce a 50 DKK fee for all transfers, in order to cover administrative costs.
