As Director of Internet Technology and Strategy at IBM, Mike Nelson manages a team helping define and implement IBM's Next Generation Internet strategy. His group is working with university researchers on [[NGi]] technology, shaping standards for the NGi, working closely with [[ICANN]], and communicating IBM's vision of NGi, the Grid, and on demand computing to customers, policy makers, the press, and the general public. He chaired the [[ISOC|Internet Society]]'s annual INET2002 meeting. Until January, 2007, Nelson served as the Society's Vice President for Public Policy.
