Abley was the Director of [[Toronto Internet Exchange]] from 2007-2009. At [[Afilias]], he was the Director of Operations, Content Propagation and Resolution Services, where he was responsible for and part of the team which managed Afilias' distributed authority server platform for various Afilias-operated top-level domains. He was also an Executive director at [[IAB]], chair of the [[NANOG]] Steering Committee, a member of the Programme Committee at [[NANOG]] and [[SANOG]].
