The 1net project was started after a group of organizations, including [[ICANN]], [[IANA]], [[ISOC]], and [[W3C]] came together for a meeting in October 2013 and released what came to be known as the Montevideo Statement. The statement made a number of high-level points regarding [[Internet]] technical operations, and 1net began as an open forum to further discuss these issues.
