Subsequent Procedures IRT

The Subsequent Procedures (SubPro) Implementation Review Team (IRT) is assisting ICANN org in the implementation of the policy recommendations in the Final Report in the new gTLD Subsequent Procedures Policy Development Process.[1]. The IRT's outcome will be an updated Applicant Guidebook (AGB) for the New Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLD) Program: Next Round, including new language based on the Board-adopted outputs from the Final Report.[2]

History[edit | edit source]

On March 16, 2023, the ICANN Board passed a resolution on the majority of the final recommendations from the New gTLD Subsequent Procedures Policy Development Process (SubPro) Working Group. In its resolution, the Board directed ICANN org to deliver "a working methodology and Implementation Review Team (IRT) work plan and timeline as agreed upon by ICANN org and the GNSO Council". The group started it's activities on May 2023.[2]

On May 30, 2025, the IRT successfully published the complete draft Applicant Guidebook for the New gTLD Program: Next Round, which was then open for Public Comment until July 23, 2025. Following the close of the Public Comment period, the ICANN org was settled to work with the IRT to make any necessary updates to the AGB, after which the ICANN Board would review it and consider it for adoption by the fourth quarter of 2025.[1]
