Abdelaziz (Aziz) Hilali is a university professor. He earned his PhD in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from the University of Grenoble in 1987. Dr. Hilali has published numerous scientific papers and delivered presentations at international conferences.
Dr. Hilali has been a driving force behind many conferences and workshops on Telecommunications, Internet Governance, and Information Technology, catering to diverse audiences. Notably, he organized ICANN meetings in Marrakech in 2016 and 2019.
As one of the founders and current Chair of ISOC Morocco, the first Internet Society chapter in Africa, he has led multiple initiatives to promote Internet adoption and usage in Morocco. He also founded and presides over the Moroccan IPv6 Task Force, established within MISOC in 2006.
Dr. Hilali was a member of the Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) of the Global Internet Governance Forum (IGF) from 2009 to 2013 and is a founder and former president of the North Africa IGF (NAIGF). He has actively participated in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and numerous IGFs.
In ICANN, Dr. Hilali served as Chair of the African Regional At-Large Organization (AFRALO) from 2012 to 2016, was a member of the Nominating Committee (2018-2019), and recorded an eight-session Internet Governance course for ICANN Academy. He is a member of NAIGF MAG, Arab IGF, and since 2023, a member of ICANN's At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC).
Regionally, Dr. Hilali is President of the Mediterranean Federation of Internet Associations (FMAI), founded in 2007, which fosters the application of ICT advancements to socio-economic progress in the Mediterranean.
Dr. Abdelaziz Hilali is married and has three children.
