I am Nitin Walia, a seasoned professional and daring leader with over two decades of extensive experience in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector. My expertise lies in email solutions, Email Address Internationalization (EAI), and bridging the digital divide through technological advancements. I have been actively involved in the global Internet community, advocating for Universal Acceptance (UA) and enabling people to use their native languages and scripts for domain names and email addresses. I strongly believe in empowering the next billion users by making the internet more inclusive and accessible, ensuring that non-English-speaking populations can fully leverage the power of the internet and information technology.
Currently, I serve as Director and Head of Sales & Marketing in various technology companies under the Data Group of Industries, including Data Xgen Technologies (P) Limited, Data Ingenious Global Limited (formerly known as Data Infosys Limited), and Bharat Sync Technologies (P) Limited. These companies have developed globally recognized software products such as XgenPlus, SpamJadoo, and DATAMAIL, which have gained widespread adoption and won multiple global recognitions.
Data Xgen Technologies has been at the forefront of email innovation, bringing the world’s first-of-its-kind IDN email software, XgenPlus, which supports email addresses not just in English but also in various Indian and international languages. Today, over 50 million users worldwide rely on XgenPlus for advanced email services, reinforcing its impact in creating a multilingual internet ecosystem.
For more than a decade, I have played a significant role within ICANN, holding key leadership positions. I currently serve as the Chair of the SPIRT Charter Drafting Team (GNSO), Vice Chair of the Universal Acceptance Steering Group (UASG), and Vice Chair of the EAI Working Group within UASG. Additionally, I contribute as a member of ICANN’s Neo-Brahmi General Panel for Label Generation Rules (LGRs), participate in the IGF's Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) and IS3C WG 5, and support the GNSO Policy Recommendation Drafting Team (EPDP) on Internationalized Domain Names. My expertise extends to the NASSCOM Product Council, where I contributed to the development of a Model RFP template for software product procurement under NPSP in India. Beyond my professional endeavors, I am a family man, blessed with two wonderful daughters. I live with my family in Jaipur, the beautiful Pink City of Rajasthan, India. In my free time, I enjoy cooking and gardening, which provide me with relaxation and creative fulfillment. #nitinwalia
