Sébastien Bachollet is a French citizen and resident of Versailles.
At a professional level, Sébastien is the founding CEO of BBS International Consulting, trading since June 2004, which handles consultancy in the Information Systems arena with a particular emphasis on Internet technologies.
Bachollet is a 2021 NomCom delegate. He was elected to the ICANN Board of Directors as the At-Large selected Board Member. He first took up this position at ICANN's 2010 Cartegna conference.[1]
Sébastien Bachollet believes in an open Internet, recognizes that current legislative bodies are often unable to solve the problems international audiences face, and in a governing body that isn't fully entrenched in the U.S. Department of Commerce.[2]
He participates in various projects for new gTLDs.[3]
Mr. Bachollet has excused himself from voting at least once on issues related to ICANN's new gTLD program as per a Conflicts of Interest Policy passed in 2011.[4]
Career History[edit | edit source]
Bachollet began his career with Air Inter, then moved to work with SNCF (French National Railways) which led to important technological and organizational projects with information systems. Given this experience, he launched and accompanied the development of CIO networks at the national level, within CIGREF, and at the European level, with EuroCio. He was responsible for strategic actions for development and networking.[5]
Internet Engagement[edit | edit source]
Sébastien has been deeply involved in the Internet world since 1994 with his SNCF (French National Railways) experience, where he was responsible for launching its website, which was the first e-business web site in France. He was also involved in developing a comprehensive program to allow employees to be connected and to use Internet technologies.
During the 2000–2003 period, Sébastien was Deputy General Manager of CIGREF (Club Informatique des Grandes Entreprises Françaises) and he has represented CIGREF and business users in the Internet Governance field at all national, regional, and international levels. CIGREF has been involved as a member of the Business Constituency since ICANN's beginning.
Sébastien participates, in a personal capacity, on the ICANN New TLDs Evaluation Process Planning Task Force and to the Assistance Group of the Evaluation and Reform Committee for the formation of the ccNSO.[6]
Bachollet was asked to be DotGreen's European liaison and member.[7] His engagement ended when he was selected by the At-Large Community to be ICANN Board member in November 2010.[8]
EGENI and ICANN Meetings[edit | edit source]
Sébastien works actively with Olivier Iteanu in setting up and holding the European Global Event on Domain Names and address systems, now known as EGENI Europe; it has been held in Paris in June or July each year since 2002, and generally draws an audience of more than 250 participants. The event is organized by ISOC France with the help of CIGREF, Medef, and CCIP. In 2006, he launched EGENI Africa in conjunction with ISOC Morocco.
In 2007, Sébastien suggested the idea of an ALS Summit during the Lisbon ICANN meeting; the Summit finally took place at the Mexico ICANN meeting in 2009.[9]
In 2008, the EGENI meeting was held in conjunction with the ICANN meeting;[10] Thus, Sébastien led the local organization team for the ICANN meeting, which drew 1,700 participants.[11]
