Its primary responsibility is to assist in the evaluation of requests for new registry services in accordance with the '''Registry Services Evaluation Policy'''. RSTEP was created based on Section 1.4 of the Registry Services Evaluation Policy, which was developed by the GNSO in lieu of the requests by [[gTLD]] Registry Operators for the review and approval of new registry services. The policy was adopted on July 25, 2006 by the [[ICANN Board]] and became effective August 15, 2006.
