'’’Joyce K. Reynolds’’’ is a computer scientist and a pioneer member of the Internet Society (ISOC). She helped Jon Postel perform the functions of the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority such as the global allocation of IP addresses, Autonomous System (AS) number allocation, management of the root zone of the Domain Name System (DNS) and other responsibilities from its early development in 1983 until 1998. After Postel’s death in 1998, she helped supervise the transition of the IANA function to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers until 2001. [1] She authored and co-authored 70 RFCs. Reynolds works for the Computer Networks Division at University of Southern California, Information Sciences Institute (USC-ISI) as Internet Services Manager. [2]

Reynolds holds a Bachelors and Masters of Arts Degree in Social Sciences (History) from the University of Southern California (USC).
Career History[edit | edit source]
Since 1979, Joyce Reynolds has been affiliated with USC-Information Sciences Institute until today. In 1983, she started working with Jon Postel and helped him with IANA management. She has been writing and editing RFCs since the time of Jon Postel until today. From 1988 to 1998, she worked with the Internet Engineering Task Force, User Services Area and helped developed the FYI (For Your Information) RFCs, a new informational series of notes for the internet community. She also serves as IANA liason to the Internet Engineering Steering Group (IESG) and manager of ICANN's publications. Reynolds was also a contributor to the development of of the DARPA Experimental Multimedia Mail System, the Post Office Protocol, the Telnet Protocol, Telnet Option Specifications and updated the File Transfer Protocol (FTP).[3] [4]
Awards[edit | edit source]
In 1998, Reynolds received the Internet Society Award in recognition for her outstanding contributions to the IETF’s User Services Area.[5] She also received the Jonathan B. Postel Service Award from the Internet Society in 2006 in recognition for their stewardship for the Request For Comments Series, which enabled many other individuals to provide contributions for the development of the internet/[6]

Reynolds has been a frequent keynote speaker and panelist different international conferences conferences in Europe, Asia-Pacific, Scandinavia, and the Middle East for the past twelve years. Her technical interests include: internet protocols, internet management, technical researching, writing, and editing, Internet security, policies and Telnet Options. [8]
