DotSaarland GmbH, also known as NIC.Saarland is a member company of dotSaarland eV, a non-profit organization based in St. Ingbert applying to become the registry operator of the .saarland geographical TLD through ICANN's New gTLD Program. It was established in 2011. Alexander Siffrin serves as CEO of the company.[1]
The company confirmed that its application for the .saarland string was submitted to ICANN on May 30, 2012. According to Siffrin, the company is confident that it will not face any string contention, as its application is supported by the Federal State of Saarland and its parent organization, dotSaarland eV, Saarland Chamber of Commerce (IHK) and the Chamber of Crafts (HWK Saarland).[2]
The registration of domain names under the .saarland string will be restricted to the residents, businesses, organizations and other entities that are locate or have interests in Saarland. Entities can register their desired domain names through ICANN accredited registrars.[3] The charter of the company mandates the establishment of an Advisory Council to ensure the participation of various social and economic institutions in Saarland in the development of the .saarland TLD and the interests of internet users.[4]
KSRegistry GmbH, a subsidiary of Key-Systems GmbH, will provide the back-end regustry solutions for the TLD. [5]
