More information:

.gifts is a GTLD that was proposed in ICANN's new New gTLD Program. After a Private auction in June 2014, Donuts became the only applicant for the string. It was delegated to the Root Zone of the DNS on the 8th August 2014.[1]

Successful Applicant[edit | edit source]

  1. Donuts (Goose Sky, LLC)- The company filed for the most number of gTLDs for a total of 307, and it was able to raise $100 million capital from various investors including multi-billion dollar venture capital and private equity funds and a top-tier bank. The company plans to operate the TLD in accordance with ICANN's objective to promote competition and innovation. The registration for domain names under the .gifts space will be open to a wide range of registrants to give them the opportunity to create and establish their own unique identity. Donuts partnered with Demand Media as its back-end registry provider; AusRegistry to provide DNS services and DNSSEC, [[Equinix] and SuperNap will provide datacenter facilities and infrastructure, and Iron Mountain to provide data escrow services. Daniel Schindler, co-founder and EVP for Marketing and Sales, is the main contact person in the application. [2] This applicant submitted a Public Interest Commitment, which can be downloaded here.

Previous Applicant[edit | edit source]

  1. Lucy Ventures, LLC- The company is located in New York and its main objective in applying for the TLD is to a trusted, hierarchical, and intuitive online marketplace for gift-related products, services, and information. The company plans to sell .gifts domain names through ICANN accredited registrars and to reserve and auction premium domain names. Afilias will provide its back-end registry services.[3]

Private Auction[edit | edit source]

In June 2014, the contention set was resolved via a private auction that Donuts won for an undisclosed amount. The other applicant withdrew their application following the result of the auction.[4]

Contract Signed[edit | edit source]

On the 3rd July 2014, Donuts received a Registry Agreement signed by ICANN for .gifts after passing the Initial Evaluation.[5]

Delegation and Availability[edit | edit source]

.gifts was delegated to the Root Zone of the DNS on the 8th August, 2014, completing the successful application for the string.[6]

Sunrise[edit | edit source]

The Registry announced that the Sunrise Period for the string would begin on the 2nd September 2014 and end on the 1st November 2014.[7]
