He was appointed to the Board of Public Technical Identifiers (PTI) in 2020, where he was later elected Chair in 2022. During his tenure, James played a pivotal role in overseeing PTI's operations, which are critical for the management of the IANA functions. He has also served as Chair of the PTI Audit Committee, ensuring financial transparency and operational accountability.


Coming from an engineering background, he quickly found his calling working to secure companies operating in the medical and biotech spaces. He has worked extensively with startups based in the US to build security and privacy programs from the ground up. He has extensive background working with regulators including the FDA, IMB, and various European medical authorities to bring security to the processes and devices that are used to save lives and help prevent suffering across the world.
At ICANN, James has contributed to the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO), serving as a Council Member from 2020 to 2022, and previously worked on the IANA Naming Function Review Team (IFRT). He has also been a part of key ICANN security and policy efforts, including the Security, Stability, and Resiliency (SSR) Review Team, where he helped assess the effectiveness of ICANN’s security efforts and develop future strategies.
