CommunityDNS is a DNS service provider. The company started to provide DNS services in 1996, and currently has offices in the UK, Japan and the US.
CommunityDNS supports 120 million domain names from 94 TLD zones, answering up to 18 billion queries per day, althought it has the current capacity to support 585 billion queries per day.[1] It supports IPv4, IPv6 and DNSSEC. including NSEC3 technologies, as well as AXFR and IXFR (with or without TSIG) and FTP over VPN interfaces.
History
- CommunityDNS was part of a much larger group that has been working in the computer networking industry since the early 80's and the domain name industry since the mid 90's. CommunityDNS' parent company has been providing software and technology systems services since 1994, [2] and started providing DNS services in 1996.
- In 2001, it started its own anycast DNS infrastructure.[3] In 2007, CommunityDNS was launched as a separate legal entity to provide anycast DNS services to the global internet community. [4]
- In February, 2008, CommunityDNS announced the establishment of a partnership with CentralNic, a registry services provider.[5]
- In September, 2008, EURid, the European registry for .eu, announced the addition of a second anycast network to be operated by CommunityDNS Ltd., using the CommunityDNS Anycast Resolution System. [6]
- In October, 2009, the University of Maryland entered into an agreement with CommunityDNS as part of the Maryland International Incubator Programme.[7]
- Also in October, 2009, CommunityDNS announced an agreement with United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs to recognize its valuable contributions, fostering the forum for multi-stakeholder policy dialogue and service delivery.[8]

CommunityDNS offers DNS resolution service for TLD registries around the world. It provides Shared Rack Space, server, dedicated servers, license solution, and package options with its services.
