It is a subsidiary of Domain Holdings, a company engaged in acquisition, development, management and monetization of domain portfolios and premium web properties. It has been a company since 1996 but was acquired by AOL by co-founders Chad Folkening and John Ferber in 2004, for approximately $500 million.[1]

In 2011 the Domain Holdings team raised $2.9 million to direct toward DomainPower, which is itself a renovation of a 2010 service known as "Rapid Domain Builder". DomainPower has a more focused SEO angle and more opportunities for revenue than its predecessor.[2]
