.red is an active gTLD that was proposed in ICANN's New gTLD Program. The Registry and manager of the TLD is Afilias. Their proposed application succeeded and was delegated to the Root Zone on 18 January 2014.[1]

Private Auction[edit | edit source]

There were originally two applicants, Donuts and Afilias, but the latter won the contention set in a private gTLD auction for an undisclosed amount. It was auctioned off in the first round of such auctions held by Innovative Auctions in June 2013.[2]

Donuts submitted a Public Interest Commitment, which can be downloaded here.

Contract Signed[edit | edit source]

On 07 November 2013, Afilias received a Registry Agreement signed by ICANN for .red after passing all the required processes needed to become a Registry Operator for the string.[3]

Delegation and Availability[edit | edit source]

.red was delegated to the Root Zone of the DNS on January 18, 2014, completing the successful application for the string.[1]
