The .trust top level domain is an active gTLD that was proposed in ICANN's New gTLD Program.
Application Details
The following is excerpted from the applicant's response to question #18:

"Deutsche Post delivers both on- and off-line mail and logistics solutions to the global marketplace - on average around 65 million items each day, six days per week in Germany alone. This happens mainly under its DEUTSCHE POST and DHL brands. Based on this number of items delivered, Deutsche Post is one of the largest postal and parcel delivery companies in the world and among the most well-known brands in Germany, and via its brand DHL, also in the world. Its history, reaching back more than 500 years, places it among the brands with the richest traditions in Germany. Not least because of this history, ʹtrustʹ can be seen as the common thread of three core brand elementsʹ: close proximity, reliable quality and ground-breaking products and services:
Operated by NCC Group plc and its subsidiary NCC Group Domain Services (originally formed as Artemis Internet), the .trust registry combines brand protection with a new high standard of security, giving customers the assurance that they can safely transact with any site identified by a .trust domain name.

* Close proximity:
To do so, the Registry provides a set of best-of-breed verification tools and a dedicated security operations center (SOC) team whose continual monitoring gives .trust registrants assurance that they are in line with security best practices and remain compliant with the .trust Technical Policy.
ʹWe are there for our customers and part of their daily life. Everyday our mail carriers give a face to the brand. They are a part of ʹtheirʹ districts and ʹtheirʹ streets and - in a way - ʹbelong to their familiesʹ. So it is a relationship of closeness and trustʹ.

* Reliable quality:
.trust Technical Policy
ʹEveryday people entrust us with very confidential items and we guarantee the protection of the constitutional right to the privacy of correspondence´.
Developed by security luminaries and industry experts, the .trust Technical Policy is an open document that was published at the beginning of ICANN 51. .

In particular, the core brand element ʺground-breaking products and services,ʺ as well as ʺreliable qualityʺ are important connecting points with Deutsche Postʹs new ground-breaking sub-brand: E-POST. E-POST aims to take the classic letter to the Internet thereby supporting confidential, binding and reliable, i.e. secure electronic communication as well as trusted transactions. Also in that context, just as in everything the Applicant does, the ʹtrustʹ factor plays a pivotal role.
In accordance with ICANN procedures, Deutsche Post AG signed a Registry agreement with ICANN which was then assigned to NCC Group’s subsidiary Artemis Internet, now renamed NCC Group Domain Services, on October 16, 2014.

Broadly speaking, the mission and purpose of this gTLD can be defined as Deutsche Postʹs plan to continue to promote and deliver innovative services to the Internet community, with a strong emphasis on security and convenience. With the .TRUST gTLD, Deutsche Post would like to create a competitive edge vis-à-vis traditional gTLD registry operators on the one hand, and its competitors in Deutsche Postʹs ʺtraditionalʺ activities on the other hand.

Sunrise
The Sunrise Period for .trust began on December 16, 2014 , NCC Group Secure Registrar.

Therefore, parties who are not Deutsche Post or - insofar and to the extent Deutsche Post deems appropriate - an Affiliate will not be entitled to register domain names in the .TRUST gTLD."

More information:

The .trust top level domain is an active gTLD that was proposed in ICANN's New gTLD Program.

Operated by NCC Group plc and its subsidiary NCC Group Domain Services (originally formed as Artemis Internet), the .trust registry combines brand protection with a new high standard of security, giving customers the assurance that they can safely transact with any site identified by a .trust domain name[1].

To do so, the Registry provides a set of best-of-breed verification tools and a dedicated security operations center (SOC) team whose continual monitoring gives .trust registrants assurance that they are in line with security best practices and remain compliant with the .trust Technical Policy.

.trust Technical Policy[edit | edit source]

Developed by security luminaries and industry experts, the .trust Technical Policy is an open document that was published at the beginning of ICANN 51. [2]

Assignment and Delegation of the TLD[edit | edit source]

The original applicant for .trust was Deutsche Post AG, which sold all its rights to the TLD to NCC Group plc [3].

In accordance with ICANN procedures, Deutsche Post AG signed a Registry agreement with ICANN which was then assigned to NCC Group’s subsidiary Artemis Internet, now renamed NCC Group Domain Services, on October 16, 2014. [4]

NCC Group Domain Services is now the Registry for the TLD, which was delegated to the Root Zone on December 6, 2014 [5]

Sunrise[edit | edit source]

The Sunrise Period for .trust began on December 16, 2014 [6] and will last until March 7, 2015 to end concurrently with the .trust Name Collision period mandated by ICANN.

Registrar[edit | edit source]

In order to be able to offer the .trust Domain Service as an end-to-end solution, NCC Group has taken advantage of the Vertical Integration principles adopted by ICANN and has formed an ICANN-accredited Registrar [7], NCC Group Secure Registrar.

.secure Withdrawal[edit | edit source]

In the 2012 round, Artemis Internet had applied for .secure [8] and was in contention with Amazon for the TLD. Artemis’ application for this TLD was withdrawn on December 16, 2014.
