December[edit source]

Week 51

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) was a two phase Summit endorsed by the United Nations to address a wide range of issues related to the Information Society, aiming aimed to address the global digital divide. The first phase of the Summit was held in Geneva in 2003, and the second in Tunis in 2005.

2015 marked the ten-year milestone identified during the WSIS. It also marked the beginning of the WSIS +10 process, which consisted of a series of major events starting in June and culminating with a High-Level Event in December. The review process seeks to analyze the future of WSIS beyond 2015.

Week 52

The Trademark Clearinghouse (TMC or TMCH) is a database of trademarks, established by ICANN in order to enhance the protection of intellectual property on the Internet. The main role of TMCH is to serve as a central repository for the information related to the rights of trademark owners to be stored, authenticated and distributed. When a customer attempts to register a new domain and the domain matches up with a trademark existing in the TMCH, the customer will receive a warning that the creation of the domain may be considered cybersquatting. Use of the TMCH is required for all new gTLD registries.

Week 53

The ICANN Nominating Committee (NomCom) is in charge of selecting all ICANN officers except the Director and positions selected by other Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees, as set forth by ICANN Bylaws. The NomCom is designed to operate independently from the Board, the Supporting Organizations, and Advisory Committees, and members of the NomCom are to act purely on behalf of the interests of the global Internet community as a whole.
