Lucas Roh is a computer scientist. He is one of the founding partners, president and CEO of Hostway Corp., a Chicago based company providing cloud, managed hosting as well as reliable, secure and scalable infrastructure-as-a-services (IaaS) solutions to its clients worldwide.[1]
Personal Background
Lucas was born in South Korea. At the age of 13, his family immigrated in the United States and settled in Chicago. As a kid, he was inquisitive and oftentimes takes things apart and investigates and learns how they work. His curiosity led him to become a computer scientist. [2]
Career History
Prior to his position at Hostway, Lucas conducted pioneering researches in the field of computer technologies integrated into mathematics at Argonne National Laboratory. He also worked with Tektronics and Hewlett Packard’s software and hardware engineering departments. He founded the the software company Wavelength in the latter of 1980s and served as professor at the Colorado State University. Lucas wrote more than 20 academic papers. [3] In 1998, Lucas together with his business partners purchased Spectronet Inc., a web hosting company with annual revenues of $30,000.[4]The name of the company was later changed to Hostway Corp. Since then, Lucas has been leading the company towards innovation, international expansion and revenue increase. Hostway is among the top five web hosting companies worldwide. [5]
Awards
In 2003, Lucas was one of the seven executives who received the 20th Annual KPMG Illinois High Tech Awards.[6] The Chicago Hall of Fame also recognized him as Chicago’s Young Business Leader in 2004.[7]
