.accountant is a TLD proposed to ICANN's New gTLD Program. Famous Four Media, through (dot Accountant Limited), filed its application to the internet governing body to seek approval for the inclusion of the TLD in the root zone of the internet domain name system.[1] Portfolio Applicant, Donuts, has applied for .accountants.
Proposal edit
This is one of the 61 domain name strings filed by the company to ICANN. Mr. Geir Rasmussen, CEO of the company, is the main contact person in the application. Neustar has been selected to provide back-end registry services.[2]
Famous Four Media believes that the delegation of the .accountant will be beneficial for the global accounting sector. It will provide accountants and accounting businesses the opportunity to offer their products and services in a safe and secure domain name space, to sample new ideas, and to drive innovation and competition. The company plans to establish a Governance Council from stakeholders in the accounting industry to serve as advisory body.[3]
To ensure consumer satisfaction and consumer trust, the company also plans to measure the Service Availability of Critical Registry Systems, Abuse and Takedown incidents, Rights protection incidents, Whois data accuracy after two years of operation.[4]
GAC Warning edit
The application was subject to a GAC Early Warning from the representative of Australia and GAC Chair, Heather Dryden. The warning system is noted as a strong recommendation on behalf of national governments to the ICANN Board that a given TLD application should be denied. The warning notes that the string is linked to a regulated market and that the applicant has not put proposed sufficient mechanisms to mitigate potential harm.[5]
