.bar is a proposed domain name string to ICANN's New gTLD Program.[1] This string, applied for by two applicants as a generic application, was deemed a Geographic TLD by ICANN's Geographic Names Panel, referring to a commune in Montenegro. Geo TLDs must have government support in order to pass evaluation and proceed towards delegation.[2]

Current Applicants[edit | edit source]

  1. Demand Media (United TLD|United TLD Holdco Ltd.), this one of the 26 gTLDs applied for by the company. [3]
  2. Punto 2012 Sociedad Anonima de Capital Variable, applied for the string as geographical TLD for the city of Barcelona. They have contracted CentralNic as their technical provider.

Objection[edit | edit source]

Saudi Arabia's Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) filed an objection against the TLD.[4]
