He is also an accomplished musician, playing in a country/bluegrass/old time band called "Crow Island", and was bassist for a basement cover band called Dads Gone Bad. He is also a published poet and essayist, and avid concert-goer and volunteer Lead and Staff for music festival ADA Access Programs.
