.red is a proposed TLD in ICANN's New gTLD Program.
There were originally two applicants, Donuts and Afilias, but the latter won the contention set in a private gTLD auction for an undisclosed amount. It was auctioned off in the first round of such auctions held by Innovative Auctions in June 2013.[1] The proposed application succeeded and was delegated to the Root Zone on 18 January 2014.[2]
Donuts submitted a Public Interest Commitment, which can be downloaded here.
Contract Signed
On 07 November 2013, Afilias received a Registry Agreement signed by ICANN for .red after passing all the required processes needed to become a Registry Operator for the string.[3]
Delegation and Availability
.red was delegated to the Root Zone of the DNS on January 18, 2014, completing the successful application for the string.[2]
