Application Details[edit | edit source]

Excerpts from response ot Question 18:
"BestTLD Pty Ltd. is excited to have the opportunity to take a lead in this new, expanded Internet environment as one of the first brand TLDs. The .best TLD enables us to offer our cutting edge technology products to individuals, brands, locations and industries in a clearer way than is currently possible. It will bring BestTLD Pty Ltd.’s online presence together into one clear channel of communication and experience, thus clearly distinguishing the company and its products from competitors...

BestTLD Pty Ltd. intends to be both Registry operator and the sole registrant in the .best TLD. The .best TLD will be used to register domain names exclusively by Best. The primary service offered by the .best TLD will therefore be the immediate distinction of legitimacy and authority conferred by the direct relationship between information and products found on .best sites and BestTLD Pty Ltd. The identifiable BestTLD Pty Ltd. brand is the glue that holds all these things together, making the Company and its products more visible and easily locatable on the Internet."[3]

Contract Signed[edit | edit source]

On 19 December 2013 BestTLD Pty Ltd received a Registry Agreement signed by ICANN for .best after passing all the required processes needed to become a Registry Operator for the string.[4]

Delegation and Availability[edit | edit source]

.best was delegated to the Root Zone of the DNS on 27 February, 2014, completing the successful application for the string.[2]

The Registry behind .best originally announced that the Sunrise Period for the TLD would begin April 17, 2014 for a period of 30 days, ending 19 May 2014. They would then go to the Landrush Period on May 20th. However, they later announced that due to "little engagement" in the Landrush phase, they canceled that phase and opted to go straight to General Availability two days after the Sunrise period ends.[5]
