.深圳 is an IDN geoTLD being proposed in ICANN's New gTLD Program. The applicant is Guangzhou YU Wei Information Technology Co., Ltd.[1] The TLD is a Hans Chinese string that refers to Shenzhen region.
The application was issued a GAC Early Warning by China. The warning system is noted as a strong recommendation on behalf of national governments to the ICANN Board that a given TLD application should be denied as it stands. Applicants are encouraged to work with objecting GAC members.[2]
The warning states notes that the application is for a Geo TLD referring to a Chinese region, which requires government support. The Chinese government does not support the TLD.[3]
