DI Ronald Schwärzler is CEO / Managing Director of punkt.wien GmbH, which is the government backed entity for the new GeoTLD, .wien.

He is a regular ICANN Meeting attendee, having been to over 4 conferences. He participates in the GeoTLD group.[1]

Career History[edit | edit source]

After his studies he was Institute Director of the University for Applied Science in Liechtenstein (now the University of Liechtenstein) and moved to the media house of Vorarlberg in 1995, where he led its online activities. Schwärzler was online director and member of the management of the ORF (2002 - 2006), and then responsible for the digital activities of the KURIER until September 2011.

DI Ronald Schwärzler works with fellow executives Mag. Nikolaus Futter and Hermann Futter at punkt.wien GmbH. In May, 2012, the punkt.wien GmbH applied via ICANN's new gTLD program for the TLD .wien. This application was supported by the Vienna city government and administration in March on the basis of a closed concession contract for the management and marketing of the TLD .wien. The punkt.wien GmbH is a 100% subsidiary of Compass Gruppe GmbH, and was founded with the goal of the operation of the new TLD .wien, and to meet the needs of all Viennese citizens and Internet-users. The new internet addresses ending in .wien will offer a unique and individual indentity for residents, businesses and institutions of Vienna.[2]

Ronal Schwärzler was a inter alia founding board member of ISPA, and is since the inception in 2001, member of the Advisory Board of the domain Internet Foundation Austria (IPA).

Education[edit | edit source]

Schwärzler has studied computer science at the TU Vienna and spent his first years as a university assistant in computer networks as well as in a US-American Group (semiconductor technology).
