Application Details[edit | edit source]
Excerpts from Response to Question 18:
"Plan Bee, LLC, the applicant for the “.build” gTLD (the “Registry”) intends to develop and serve the global construction industry, as well as all other industries that engage in any form of “building”, by enhancing communication, access to relevant information, and searchability... The construction industry alone presently employs over 110 Million people globally. Economists value this global industry at upwards of 7 Trillion Dollars per year, accounting for approximately 9% of the world’s GDP. The Registry will create an online community dedicated to the construction industry and all other forms of “building”."
It will be an "open TLD" with no restrictions on registration after preliminary launch phases:
" The Registry may partner with construction associations around the globe to attract potential registrants, users and others. Following a Sunrise and Landrush period, the Registry intends to make domains available to all interested parties willing to complete the registry’s application process and comply with registry policies and ICANN requirements. Registration requests for available names will be allocated by the Registry through accredited registrars on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to the Registry policies and ICANN requirements."[4]
Contract Signed[edit | edit source]
On 07 November 2013, Donuts received a Registry Agreement signed by ICANN for .build after passing all the required processes needed to become a Registry Operator for the string.[5]
Delegation and Availability[edit | edit source]
.build was delegated to the Root Zone of the DNS on January 18, 2014, completing the successful application for the string.[2]
Acceptable Use and Takedown Policy[edit | edit source]
In January 2014, the Registry for .build published its Acceptable Use and Takedown Policy, which stipulates the situations in which the company could ban or remove a domain name. The policy bans customary things like spamming and child abuse material, but it also bans "Gripe sites" and "pay-per-click", which is unusual for a Registry policy of this type.[6]
