.band is a new GTLD that was proposed in the New gTLD Program of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. It was delegated to the Root Zone of the DNS on the 15th August, 2014, completing the successful application for the string.[1]

Successful Applicant

  1. Donuts (Auburn Hollow, LLC), the company was formed by domain industry veterans that applied for 307 new gTLDs. Daniel Schindler, EVP for Sales & Marketing of Donuts is listed as the main contact for the application. . [2] This applicant submitted a Public Interest Commitment, which can be downloaded here.

Previous Applicant

  1. Red Triangle, LLC, applied for the .band string through WhatBox?, a company that own domain name registrars, resellers and owns a portfolio of more than 1800 domain names. Erik Ludwick is the main contact person for the company. [3]

Private Auction Resolves Contention

WhatBox? withdrew their applications after an April 2014 private auction that was administered by Applicant Auction, in which Donuts won the rights to the string.[4]

Objections

The American Association of Independent Music filed community objections against both applications.[5]

Contract signed

On 12th June 2014, Donuts received a Registry Agreement signed by ICANN for .band after passing the Initial Evaluation.[6]

.band was delegated to the Root Zone of the DNS on the 15th August, 2014, completing the successful application for the string.[7]
