Virgilio Augusto Fernandes Almeida

Virgilio Augusto Fernandes Almeida is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (ICEX), Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). He is also the Secretary at the Ministry of Science and Technology.[1]

Mr.Almeida has served as the Vice-President at the Brazilian Computer Society.[2] He is also a member of the Technical Council of Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Level Personnel (Capes), the Advisory Board of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC).[3]

Mr.Almeida has previously worked at Petroleo Brasileiro SA - PETROBRAS and Companhia Energetica de Minas Gerais S / A - CEMIG.[4]

Mr.Almeida was honored with the Commander of the National Order of Scientific Merit by the President of the Republic of Brazil in November, 2006.[5]

Mr.Almeida has his Bachelors from UFMG, Masters from the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-RIO) and Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University in the United States.
