Yrjo Lansipuro(Yrjö Länsipuro) (Born April 18, 1940 Lapua, Finland) is a Finnish diplomat and IT Specialist who has served as department head of Foreign Affairs and of Foreign Affairs. [1] He is currently a Member of the Board of the Finnish chapter of the Internet Society.[2]

He has an MA in Social Science (1996) from University of Tampere. His son , is a Finnish green politician and a gardener.[3]

Career History

  • From 1959 to 1978 he worked as worked for the Finnish Broadcasting Co. (YLE) as television journalist and TV news managing editor in Helsinki and foreign correspondent in Moscow and the Far East. [4]
  • From 1975 to 1977 he taught TV News Practicum in University of Tampere
  • Seconded to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), he headed its New York Bureau in 1978-1980.
  • In the eighties, he also worked several periods as consultant for the setting up of an all-Asian TV news exchange by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU).
  • In 1992 he joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, working successsively as the Press Counselor of its embassy in Washington DC. [5]
  • From 1997 to 2005 he served as Director General(1997-2005) of Department for Communications and Culture at Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
  • From 2005 to 2009 he served as Ambassoder at ICT and Information Society Coordinator at Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, representing Finland in the Governmental Advisory Committee of ICANN.
  • He was the representative of Finland on the Governmental Advisory Commitee of ICANN and on the EC=SOC Commission of Science and Technology for Development from 2007 to 2009
  • From 2007-2009, he was a member of President's Strategy Committee (PSC) of ICANN.
  • He was the the delegation for the Finnish Section of European Cultural Foundation from 2006 to 2009.
