ICANN 8 was the first event to be held in Australia

The Annual ICANN 8 meeting was situated in Melbourne Australia between the dates of 9th – 13th March 2001. All meetings throughout the event were free to attend, by any person that was interested in the topics discussed throughout the event. All meetings were held in the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre (MECC).

The ICANN 8 event lasted for the duration of the five days it had been planned for, and like all ICANN Meetings, it was seen as a great success, as many people from the industry had turned up to say their problems and concerns. There were several topics on the agenda for the event, one of the main topics being New Top level Domain Agreements.<ref>[2]
