The Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) is one of the agencies of the New York City Government responsible in providing Information Technology (IT), infrastructure and telecommunications services to businesses, employees, residents and visitors in the city. The DoITT main objective is to modernize, unlock and innovate the IT services and to help improve and maintain accountability and transparency by implementing cutting-edge technologies and partnerships. The agency also creates policy and strategy on emerging and innovative technologies relevant to the city government to make its services more effective and user-friendly. DoITT has $375 million operation budget and employs more than 1,200 staffs.[1]
Application for .NYC edit
The New York City government through the DoITT applied for the .nyc geographical TLD with ICANN's new gTLD expansion program. The agency started its initiative since 2009 by issuing an RFP to interested parties to become its partner in managing the operations of the .nyc registry and a RFI to seek the advice and opinions regarding the plan and how to use and administer the .nyc domain string from internet stakeholders in the city.[2]
Neustar was selected by the DoITT to become its partner in operating the .NYC TLD. Neustar agreed to help develop application and pay $185,000 application fee, post application fees and $25,000 annual fee once the TLD is approved by ICANN. The city of New York will get 40% of the total revenues generated from selling .nyc domain names. [3]

- CITIServ - is an inter-agency data sharing that allows better collaboration in delivering better and more efficient service to businesses, residents and visitors in the city.
- CityWide Service Desk - provides 24/7 customer service assistance. Consumers may request technical services or assistance to resolve issues for network, desktop, mainframe, application services, maintenance, during outages, check for ticket status etc.
- NYCWiN (New York City Wireless Network)- is broadband wireless network dedicated to city government agencies within the five boroughs to provide real time access to high-speed data, video and emergency voice communications.
- Citywide Radio Network (CRN)- a land-mobile radio communications system available within the five boroughs to ensure public safety and other necessary services.
- IT Security- ensures over-all security of data and Information Technology assets and infrastructure within the city.
- NYC.gov- the primary website that provides access to all New York City government services
- GIS & Mapping- a free technology which can be used the city agencies and the public to determine geographic or location-based information.
