The International Basketball Association (FIBA)' formerly known as Fédération Internationale de Basketball Amateur is an independent association responsible in defining the rules of basketball and it governs the international basketball competition. New gTLD Application
In April 25, 2012, FIBA confirmed its application for the .basketball generic top level domain name (gTLD) to ICANN's New gTLD Program. Its main objective is to protect the sport, its stakeholders and its approximately 450 million players and fans worldwide. The association partnered with ROAR Domains LLC and Top Level Domains Holding Ltd. to prepare its application with ICANN while Minds + Machines will provide its back-end registry solutions. [2]
