Jonathan Robinson is an entrepreneur and business development specialist. Jonathan is the Non-Executive Director of NetScientific PLC and has been since December 2022. He's also the director of Internet Computer Bureau Ltd. He is the founder of IPRota, a private company engaged in providing design and operation services as well as rights protection mechanisms for new gTLDs. He co-founded Group NBT, a domain management company,[1] and served as director of Ortegra, a company dedicated to helping entrepreneurs develop their ideas into profit-generating businesses.[2] He was on the Board of Directors at Afilias until it was acquired.[3]

He is the current chair of the GNSO Council.[4]

Career History[edit | edit source]

He was the chairman of Afilias from 2016 through 2020, and its non-executive director from 2003 through 2014. From 2006 until 2009, Robinson served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Group NBT, where he was responsible for the group's product management, software development, technical operations, service delivery, commercial media relations, project acquisitions and integration, as well as M&A strategy, prospecting and execution support. From 1997 until 2001, he worked for Net Benefit Plc as Chief Executive Officer and he was responsible in listing the company at the London Stock Exchange and acquisition of several companies. In 2001, he assumed the position of Business Development Director of Net Benefit plc and supervised technical operations and product and software development until 2005. He also served as Director of Nominet UK Ltd from 2003 until 2006. From 1998 until 1999, Robinson was the Deputy Chairman of CORE, a non-profit membership association of internet domain name registrars accredited by ICANN. He was a Research Fellow at the Rolls Royce Technology Centre at the University of Cambridge from 1995 to 1996 and a Research Associate at the Imperial College in London from 1993-1994.[5]

ICANN Involvement[edit | edit source]

Jonathan is an active participant in ICANN Meetings. In 2009, he was elected as the European Representative to the Registries Stakeholder Group. His term expired in 2013.[6]

At ICANN 51 in Los Angeles, it was announced during the opening ceremony that Jonathan was the recipient of the 2014 ICANN Leadership Award.[7]

Jonathan attended the University of Cape Town and received a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering, M.Sc. in Applied Science and B.Sc. in Physics.
