The central focus of Latisys is the colocation industry. The organization specializes in the management of online hosting and related services, and also has a department that focuses on disaster recovery.

The company deals with an entire range of customers from individuals to medium and large businesses and corporate enterprises. The company has been in business since the year 1994, and now owns high volume data centers at different locations in the United States.

Latisys allows companies that cannot afford their own data management systems to outsource their infrastructure requirements. Needless to say, a great many of their clients are in the IT industry. Latisys has in recent years obtained quite a dominant position in its chosen sector, providing extremely comprehensive facilities for its clients. [2]

History

The company was started in 1994 and was originally known as Managed Data Holdings. In the year 2000 the company changed its name to Latisys to reflect the company's considerable and sustained growth in recent years.

Powered by the massive acquisition of infrastructure, facilities and advanced data centers, Latisys continues to grow at a steady pace. [3]

The company today owns three TIER III data facilities, these being aquisitions of the company. The one in Chicago was previously the Stargate facility. Other data centers owned by the company are the former Data 393 center in Denver and the former InteleNet center in California. [4]

Business

With considerable growth through acquisition and the unveiling of new facilities, Latisys is certainly a dominant force in the hosting and data management industry.

The name change to Latisys was instituted both at the decision of the company's highest executives and with the agreement of their partners and investors.

Latisys provides more than merely data management outsourcing, allowing companies to reduce their expenditure on hardware - It also has a sophisticated set of disaster recovery systems and protocols. [5]

Products and Services

Latisys uses advanced infrastructure to power the growth of its clients. Some of the services that it provides are:

Outsourced Infotech Solutions: These are for companies that wish to outsource infrastructure while retaining comprehensive control of the colocation system.
Helping clients to conserve manpower: Another advantage of outsourcing to Latisys is that it frees up the technical staff of the outsourcing company for other tasks.

Latisys has shown considerable concern for its client's welfare and interests, several times enhancing its facilities as clients' requirements and needs grew. Their most recent expansion is a center measuring 123, 000 square feet in Washington DC. [6]

Recent news

Latisys has commenced construction of a massive TIER III data center measuring 93, 000 square feet, and located in Orange County. This construction effort is powered by Latisys's successful refinancing, with its 65 million dollar credit facility enhanced to 110 million dollars.

When construction of the data center is complete, Latisys will be the single largest operator in the data management industry in Orange County. The new data center is located almost next door to Latisys's present center in California.

The facility is highly equipped, with ten megawatts in power, and supporting power densities of up to 250 watts per square foot. [7]
