Zak Muscovitch is a Domain Name Lawyer. He has been practising domain name law for over a decade.[1] He represents both domain name registrants and trademark owners in connection with Domain Name Disputes.[2][3]

Legal Career

Mr. Muscovitch is the principal partner at The Muscovitch Law Firm,[4] and the founder of DNattorney.com; he founded the site in 1999. He has won historic and notable cases against Molson, Google, and Li Ka Shing, who is consistently ranked as one of the top 20 richest people in the world.[5][6][7]

He is considered Canada's leading domain name lawyer, having worked on more cases than any other lawyer in Canada.[8] In 2010, he ran for an election for a seat in the CIRA board, [9][10] however, he was not elected. Mr. Muscovitch led the UDRP Panel, alongside Chef Patrick, at T.R.A.F.F.I.C. in 2010.[11]

Industry Achievements

Mr. Muscovitch was involved in the following historic legal cases:[12]

  • Toronto.com (2000), successfully defended against the first attempt in Federal Court to obtain an interlocutory injunction against a domain name registrant
  • SweetSuccess.com (2001). the first decision involving a Canadian registrar to establish the convenient forum for international domain name disputes.
  • Technodome.com (2002), the first in rem decision under the U.S. ACPA.
  • Canadian.biz (2002), the first Canadian court case overturning an ICANN UDRP, which was originally commenced by Molson
  • CheapTickets.ca (2008) as defense he successfully obtained the cancelation of a plaintiff's trademark for "Cheap Tickets"; the proceeding went before the Federal Court of Appeals.

Zak Muscovitch has recently started a fun project, a blog featuring reviews of the buffet style restaurants that he avidly seeks out.[13]

Education

He holds LLB from York University's Osgoode Hall Law School.[14]
