The Government of Victoria has a democratic parliamentary form of government. The branches of the government is the Executive (Premier and Cabinet Ministers), Legislative (Parliament) and Judiciary (system of courts). The State of Victoria is one of the six states of the Australian Commonwealth. The Queen (represented by the Governor), the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly makes up the Parliament. The political party with the larger number of seats in the Legislative Assembly forms the government of Victoria and the leader of the party becomes the Premier of Victoria.[1]

The government of Victoria is based from United Kingdom's Westminster system. There is a separation of power between the three branches of the government. The Executive branch, which is responsible in administering the government has the responsibility to present its policies to the Parliament for evaluation and approval. [2]

The governor of Victoria is the head of the state who is appointed by Queen based on the recommendation of the Premier of the State. The governor serves as the representative of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and his primary responsibility is to ensure the democracy of the state. The governor's power and responsibility include constitutional, ceremonial and community functions as defined by the laws established by the Parliament. Alex Chernov is the current Governor of the State. [3]

The Premier is elected and supported by the majority members of the Legislative Assembly. The Ministers of the Cabinet help the Premier in governing the State. Ted Baillieu is the current Premier of the Government of Victoria. [4]
