Jaap Akkerhuis is a Research Engineer at NLnet Labs,[1] a small research and development group that focuses on IT development.

Jaap has been instrumental in the development of the Internet in the Netherlands and in Europe since the early 1980s. After a period of seven years in the US where he was active at the Information Technology Center from CMU, mt Xinu, and AT&T Bell Labs, he returned to the Netherlands where he joined the first independent ISP. Later he worked as a Technical Advisor for SIDN, the registry of the .NL ccTLD.

He has served in ICANN's SSAC since its inception and is co-chair of the RIPE DNS working group, and he has also served as a co-chair for the IETF ProvReg Working Group.[2] He is a regular consultant for ICANN and a member of the ISO 3166 Maintenance Agency.

Jaap Akkerhuis is also a member of the Stanford Solar Center and SuperSID Software Committee.[3]
