.pizza is a GTLD that was proposed in ICANN's New gTLD Program. After a Private auction in May 2014, Donuts became the only applicant for the string. The application succeeded and .pizza was delegated to the Root Zone on the 27th August 2014.[1]

Private Auction[edit | edit source]
In a private auction conducted by Applicant Auction in May 2014, Donuts won the rights to .pizza over the other three applicants for an undisclosed amount.[3]
TLDH & $15mm Auction Funding[edit | edit source]
On February 26 2013, Top Level Domain Holdings Ltd. announced that it had entered into a funding agreement worth $15 million to be used in the case of auction for a specific unnamed TLD. The investor will not receive ownership of the TLD but a share of future revenues. TLDH did not name the TLD that the funds are directed for, and it is in 11 head to head contentions and 12 featuring more than one contender.[4]
Contract Signed[edit | edit source]
On 26th June 2014, Donuts received a Registry Agreement signed by ICANN for .pizza after passing the Initial Evaluation.[5]
Delegation and Availability[edit | edit source]
.pizza was delegated to the Root Zone of the DNS on the 27th August, 2014, completing the successful application for the string.[6]
Sunrise[edit | edit source]
The Registry announced that the Sunrise Period for the string would begin on the 30th September 2014, and end on 29th November 2014.[7]
