.archi is a proposed TLD in ICANN's New gTLD Program. STARTING DOT, a French new gTLD start up company applying for 5 total TLDs, is the only applicant for .archi.[1] The proposed application succeeded and was delegated to the Root Zone on 31 March 2014.[2]

STARTING DOT plans to restrict the registration of .archi domain names to certified architects and individuals who have graduated with a degree in architecture.[3] The application is supported by the Paris-based International Architectural Union (UIA), the umbrella trade organization for more than one million architects.[4] The UIA was founded in 1948, UIA is the most representative professional organization of architects and the only global network of architecture, covering120 countries and territories through its members sections.[5]

The UIA has objected to the open gTLD application for .architect submitted by Donuts.[6]

GAC Early Warning

France issued GAC early warnings to this string and the related .architect string. The warning system is noted as a strong recommendation on behalf of national governments to the ICANN Board that a given TLD application should be denied as it stands. Applicants are encouraged to work with objecting GAC members.[7]

The warning notes that architects are a certified and regulated sector in France and asks that the TLD be limited to only legitimate architects.[8]

Contract Signed

On 06 February 2014 Starting Dot received a Registry Agreement signed by ICANN for .archi after passing all the required processes needed to become a Registry Operator for the string.[9]

Delegation and Availability

.archi was delegated to the Root Zone of the DNS on 31 March, 2014, completing the successful application for the string.[2] The TLD is online ([1]).
