Diaz attended the College of Engineering in Mayagüez where he began studying at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. In 1977, he transfared to the University of Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia where he finished his degree of Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1979. He completed his Master's degree in the same field with specialization in computer design and electronic circuits in 1980.
