.онлайн is an IDN gTLD that was proposed in ICANN's New gTLD Program. The applicant and now Registry Operator is CORE,[1] which applied for 3 TLDs, all of which were IDNs. The proposed application succeeded and was delegated to the Root Zone on 23 October, 2013.[2]

Background

Excerpted from Applicant response to Question #18:

"The purpose of .онлайн is to be a common and widely used TLD, oriented towards registrants and Internet users which write in the Cyrillic alphabet. The word “онлайн” means “online”, a term widely used by all Internet users of the Cyrillic alphabet in Belarus, Bulgaria, Russia and Ukraine, while being also easily recognizable by the population of other neighboring Balkan and Baltic countries that use and⁄or are familiar with Cyrillic-script languages." .. "Registrations under the .онлайн TLD are available for registration in Cyrillic string only, according to the rules and IDN Table provided in Q44 below, and subject to bona-fide use of the .онлайн TLD, and subject to the further requirement that the registrant’s use of the registered domain name, must be:

- generally accepted as legitimate; and, - commensurate with the role and importance of the registered domain name."[3]

Contract Signed

On 14 July 2013, CORE received a Registry Agreement signed by ICANN for . онлайн after passing the Initial Evaluation.[4] It was one of the first 4 contracts to be signed as part of the New gTLD Program.[5]

Delegation and Availability

.онлайн was delegated to the Root Zone of the DNS on October 22, 2013, completing the successful application for the string. It was one of the first 4 strings delegated to the Root as part of the New gTLD Program.[2]

Sunrise

The Registry announced that the Sunrise Period for the string would begin 16 January 2014 and end on 18 March 2014.[6]
