The IDN Guidelines Revision Working Group[1], also called IDN TLD Working Group[2] was an ICANN working group of gTLD and ccTLD representatives formed to initiate the first revision of the IDN Implementation Guidelines,[3] which would become the IDN Implementation Guidelines Version 2.0. They were also responsible for Versions 2.1[4] and 2.2[5], and later, Version 3.0.[6]

Formation[edit | edit source]

The IDN Guidelines Revision Working Group was formed after the IDN workshop that happened during ICANN 23 agreed on the need of a revision for the IDN Guidelines and provided a basis for a first review. Following this workshop, a Working Group of gTLD and ccTLD registries with IDN experience was formed to work on a revision of the guidelines, to be put forth for public comment.[1]

After Version 3.0, ICANN made a Call for Community Experts on July 20, 2015 to form a new Working Group with the goal to review the IDN Implementation Guidelines, forming the IDN Guidelines Working Group (IDNGWG).[7]
