LACIGF
The Internet Governance Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean (LACIGF) was created in 2008 with the aim of bringing together Internet Governance stakeholders so that they can, on equal terms, “discuss various topics, define principles, produce agreements and/or identify recommendations[1]”.
Objective[edit | edit source]
LACIGF “seeks to provide meeting spaces for stakeholders from different sectors of the Internet ecosystem and digital policies to discuss and, when possible, reach agreements on the most relevant issues for the region[2]”. Therefore, like the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), the idea of LACIGF is to foster the debate on Internet Governance, but at a regional level, encompassing Latin America and the Caribbean.
Discuss[edit | edit source]
Every year, the Forum takes place in one of the countries that make up Latin America and the Caribbean, which are chosen from a call for proposals for the host country. The Forum aims to impact, at a regional level, the debate on Internet Governance, as well as seek solutions to problems that are common to the region.
Thus, it is possible to conclude that “the regional meetings served as a catalyst to bring together various stakeholders, particularly from the technical community, academia and civil society organizations[3]”, in addition to several debates that were taken to the IGF itself.
Activities of LACIGF[edit | edit source]
"The LACIGF organizes annual meetings, with the aim of identifying priority and relevant themes for the region that should be considered on the agenda and debates of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF)"[4].

Youth Initiatives[edit | edit source]
"Youth LACIGF" is the Internet Governance Forum for young people in Latin America and the Caribbean, an initiative that emerged from the growing community of young people who have shown interest in issues related to Internet Governance. Given the more active role that young people began to assume, this multisectoral space was created in 2016 in the city of San José, Costa Rica. This space has moved to different cities in Latin America over the years and has grown over the years"[5].
